Discipline Brewing in Pawtucket: A New Chapter at Carver

October 22, 2026

Tony Lustig, co-owner of Discipline Brewing Co., told Rhode Island Monthly this summer that breweries have become de facto "community centers." The industrial space at the corner of Carver and Main streets, on the back of the mill building that also holds Jordan's Jungle, has kept getting new tenants while the businesses inside it changed.

Timing matters this fall. Rhode Island FC played its last regular-season home match at Centreville Bank Stadium against Pittsburgh on Oct. 17. Its posted schedule shows no home date after that. With match days over for now, the room at 100 Carver St. has the busiest calendar in downtown Pawtucket for the rest of the season.

One Room, Three Breweries

Two businesses came before Discipline, and both lasted long enough to become part of the neighborhood.

Tenant In the space How it ended
Bucket Brewery Founded in 2010, moved into the mill in 2013 Announced in January 2018 that it would stop operating in mid-March
Smug Brewing Nearly seven years Final day was Aug. 30, 2025
Discipline Brewing Co. Took over in September 2025, soft launch July 1, 2026 Open now

Rhode Island Monthly calls Bucket one of the state's original craft breweries, part of the early wave of local beer in the 2010s. When WPRI covered Bucket's closing in 2018, it named the other members of the city's beer cluster at the time: Foolproof Brewing Co., Isle Brewers Guild and Crooked Current Brewery. It also noted that the mayor often pointed to the cluster as a sign of the city's energy.

Smug followed Bucket and became known for its witty beer names. The owners announced the closing in July 2025. The Valley Breeze reported that they wanted to take their lives and careers in new directions. They also cited changes in the industry, shifting tastes and taproom expectations, competition, and timing. The owners said the brewery and its equipment were for sale and that interested buyers had already come forward.

The Brewery That Almost Opened in Exeter

The owners of Discipline first planned the brewery in 2020 and looked at several locations in South County. According to Rhode Island Monthly, Lustig and Sam Clidence had gone as far as seeking town approvals for a former Harley Davidson dealership in Exeter. Then the tariff announcements of March 2025 changed the numbers and their lender backed out. Smug's sale listing the following August gave them a space they already knew.

The partners come to brewing from other fields. Lustig trained as a musician and plays saxophone. Clidence is a woodworker and general contractor, and he carved the mahogany sign out front by hand. Lustig says the name comes from those two disciplines, music and woodworking. The Valley Breeze lists Courtney Deary as the third member of the ownership team.

The soft launch began Wednesday, July 1, with seven of the twelve planned beers on tap. The ribbon cutting followed on Thursday, July 9, with food from Brick's BBQ.

What Changed Inside the Old Room

Anyone who drank at Smug will recognize the basic layout. Rhode Island Monthly describes it as similar, with several updates to the brewing area and the bar. The changes that matter most for the fall calendar are about space and staff:

  • A second room. Discipline took over a former gym next door, which adds room for events and roughly 100 more people.
  • The hallway still counts. As in Smug's day, the mill corridor outside serves as overflow seating.
  • A mural at the door. Deary, who is also creative director, painted the mural that greets visitors.
  • A new head brewer. Alex Roskowski, formerly of Revival Brewing Company, runs the brewhouse. The bar has twelve taps. Before opening, the owners planned a lager and a West Coast IPA as staples, along with beers inspired by family time on Hog Island in Narragansett Bay.

Lustig also told the magazine that he loves dark German beer and that it shapes his own taste, which suggests what to look for on the board as the weather turns.

Before opening, the owners announced hours of 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Those were opening plans, so check the brewery's site before planning a late visit. The site also gives a second way in, through the mill at 545 Pawtucket Ave.

The Calendar Through Mid-November

The extra room explains the calendar. Discipline's events page lists something nearly every week through mid-November, mixing a weekly fixture with seasonal one-offs.

Date Event
Fri., Oct. 23 Craft Night 2 Ways, plus ABCD Brothers Kitchen
Sun., Oct. 25 ABCD Brothers Kitchen
Tue., Oct. 27 Weekly Trivia Tuesday
Fri., Oct. 30 '90s Halloween Party, plus ABCD Brothers Kitchen
Sat., Oct. 31 Halloween Family Day, RSVP listed, plus ABCD Brothers Kitchen
Tue., Nov. 3 Weekly Trivia Tuesday
Sun., Nov. 8 ABCD Brothers Kitchen
Tue., Nov. 10 Weekly Trivia Tuesday

The events page lists more dates beyond Nov. 10. Its start times appear to be shifted, so confirm times with the brewery before you go. ABCD Brothers Kitchen has been part of the plan since opening weekend in July.

The Building Going Up Across the Street

Lustig gave Rhode Island Monthly one more reason he likes the corner. A distribution center planned across the street, he said, should bring regular drive-by traffic. That project is JK Equities' Blackstone Distribution Center at 1 Moshassuck St., a building of about 160,000 square feet with New England Construction as general contractor. When ground was broken in June 2025, JLL's announcement forecast substantial completion by August 2026. The Providence Journal reported that the site is the former Morley Field, which is becoming a warehouse and trucking center. The brewery's bet on the corner assumes that a big new neighbor will send more people past its door.

Where the Corner Sits on Pawtucket's Beer Map

Discipline is one of five places in the city now pouring their own beer or spirits, and each stop has its own pace.

  • The Guild, 461 Main St., is a co-op brewery and beer hall. Its own site lists regular hours and beer brewed on site. It's the nearest neighbor if you're walking from Carver Street along Main. Its events page shows nothing scheduled at the moment.
  • Foolproof Brewing, 241 Grotto Ave., runs a taproom inside its brewery.
  • Crooked Current Brewery and White Dog Distilling share 560 Mineral Spring Ave. at Lorraine Mills. Crooked Current posts Thursday through Saturday hours, and White Dog lists Friday and Saturday tasting room hours and tours.

Each business sets its own hours, and those change with the season, so check the day before a Saturday loop.

After November

Two more seasonal facts help with planning past the Halloween weekend. Hope Artiste Village has a Hope Events on Main tasting on Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., part of its themed seasonal tasting series. Saturday mornings are different this year. Farm Fresh RI's winter market now runs at its own facility at 10 Sims Ave. in Providence, not in Pawtucket. The 2026–27 season is scheduled for Saturdays from Nov. 7 through April 24, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The corner of Carver and Main is a good example of how Pawtucket's mill buildings stay useful when the businesses inside them change. Old industrial space keeps finding new uses here, and I find each reuse as interesting as the architecture around it. If you own or are considering a home in one of the city's older neighborhoods and want to talk about how its history affects its value, Lisa Ardente would be glad to compare notes over a pint at the bar.
